A second meeting between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor appears to be a step closer with the former confirming that it is a possible event for 2023.
Mayweather returns to the ring this weekend when he faces Mikuru Asakara in an exhibition bout before switching his focus to another lucrative contest later this year.
In 2017, Mayweather and McGregor shared the spotlight as a huge audience watched the MMA star make his professional boxing debut.
Despite making a decent start, McGregor was soon overwhelmed by the former pound-for-pound superstar before being stopped in the fight’s tenth round. Could they meet again next year?
“I want to go out there this weekend and have fun [against Asakura]. Then I have another exhibition Dubai in November and me and Conor McGregor in 2023,” said Mayweather when speaking to the Daily Mail.
“We don’t know if it’s going to be an exhibition of a real fight. But there’s been talks of both. I would prefer an exhibition.
“So, guys like Conor McGregor and guys that don’t really hit hard such as YouTubers or UFC guys, I don’t really mind colliding with those kinds of individuals but nothing where I am going to put myself in a position where I am going to harm myself or hurt myself.”
