Dan Azeez wants his fight with Joshua Buatsi to rival the series between Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward.
Ward and Gatti battled it out over the early 2000s in a trilogy that saw Gatti lose the first fight only to secure back-to-back victories to settle the rivalry between the pair.
Azeez and Buatsi now face one another in London on Saturday night (live on Peacock in the US), in a WBA light heavyweight eliminator.
The two were supposed to fight last year, but the former sparring partners had to delay the clash due to Azeez’s back injury, and it is yet to be seen if their friendship is rekindled once the clash is done with.
Discussing the possibility of matching Gatti vs. Ward, he told Sky Sports: "I hope so. The most important thing is to get the win but I want it to be a real entertaining fight and one for the ages.
"I want to be in great fights. I want to be in fights that people remember and go back to and keep watching."
Azeez added that he was fighting, "Not just underdogs but people who believe that maybe they can't do something. Or they haven't got the confidence, or maybe even have people telling them that they can't do something.
"When I first started everyone was like no, don't bother. What's the point?
"That's what I'm trying to be the posterboy for. No matter what, as long as you put in the work, nothing is impossible."
