Fresh off his second decision victory over Tyson Fury this year, Oleksandr Usyk was in the middle of his post-fight interview when a familiar foe crashed the session — none other than Daniel Dubois.
The IBF heavyweight world champion stormed the ring, grabbed the microphone in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and live on DAZN, to confront Usyk and tell the unified world champ this:
"Usyk, I want my revenge. I want my revenge, Usyk," Dubois told Usyk.
"Well done tonight. I want my revenge from the robbery last time. Let's get it, let's go!"
To that, Usyk replied: "No problem. Where's [promoter] Frank [Warren]? Make it happen.
"Where Excellency? Make me fight with Daniel Dubois. Thank you so much."
Usyk produced a ninth-round knockout of Dubois in August 2023, but not without some controversy.
The fifth round of the fight had Dubois dropping Usyk with a right hand to the body. Shortly after hitting the canvas, Usyk and his corner claimed the shot was a low-blow and the referee saw it along those lines, too. However, an instant replay showed the body shot was right on the belt line and that it should have been counted as a knockdown and perhaps a subsequent knockout of Usyk as the Ukrainian was doubled over in pain.
That's the "robbery" Dubois was referring to.
Since losing that fight, though, Dubois has been on a roll, delivering stoppage wins against Jarrell Miller in December 2023, Filip Hrgovic this past June and a devastating knockout of Anthony Joshua in September.
His surge would make an Usyk-Dubois rematch for the undisputed heavyweight crown intriguing, with the unified champ Usyk saying "no problem, I'm ready" after taking some time to recover from the 24 rounds he had with Fury.
However, for that to come to fruition, Dubois will have to successfully defend the IBF title against Joseph Parker on February 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
