The Danny Aarons vs. Danny Simpson winner at X Series 017 this weekend will already receive plenty of bragging rights.
But a bet between the main eventers is sweetening the deal that much more, especially for Aarons.
"It would mean more to me than it would mean to him and that's why I'm going to win," Aarons started explaining at the press conference Thursday about what a victory would signify. "It would mean everything to me."
Added Aarons: "It would mean even more now that I get his Premier League medal. I can't believe he said yes to that! You can't go back on that. Handshakes are on camera. So if I didn't want to win already, I now want to win even more."
To that, Simpson replied: "I don't mind shaking hands because that's not going to happen."
The handshake deal that Aarons is referring to came during the earlier buildup to this fight when he and Simpson had a face-to-face meeting. During that encounter, Aarons proposed a bet stipulating that if he wins, he'll get Simpson's Premier League gold medal from the right-back's football days. However, if Simpson wins, he'll receive Aarons' gold play button from YouTube after reaching one million subscribers as a streamer.
To Aarons' surprise, Simpson agreed on the deal and shook hands to cement it.
Prior to the press conference, KSI explained on the DAZN X Series YouTube page how the Aarons-Simpson loser will be subject to endless scrutiny from online trolls.
"If [Simpson] loses, it's going to be carnage for him. Everywhere he goes, he's going to be seen as the guy that got beat up or lost to Danny Aarons or even knocked out," KSI said.
"But then, if Danny Aarons lost, oh my God," he continued. "He would not hear the end of it, man. Every tweet he tweets, he will constantly have him losing underneath every tweet he posts, just saying, laughing at him and making fun of him."
