David Haye has said that he was offered too much money to turn down a return to boxing when he takes on Joe Fournier in September.
Haye retired in 2018 after back-to-back defeats against Tony Bellew, but will now fight against Fournier on September 11 aged 40.
.Haye and his friend Fournier had a disagreement over who would emerge victorious were they to fight, and that led the former champion to propose a televised return to the ring to settle the dispute.
“Even if it’s only a month of training, it’s hard to put your body through that,” Haye told IFL TV.
“You have to sacrifice, you’ve gotta go to bed at a certain time, you’ve gotta cancel all of your other arrangements, put all of your other business on hold.
“That’s what I do when I’m training for a fight, everything gets put on the back burner.
“I’d only do that for PPV money, good PPV money, and that’s what he brought to the table.”
Speaking of the money for the event, Haye said he is motivated than by more than just the cash, but he stood to earn a healthy sum.
“It’s more than the pay. It’s more than what I got for Bellew I,” he said.
“I know, that’s what I’m saying, it’s crazy dough.
“What am I gonna say to that? ‘No, I’m not going to fight Joe for that.’
“What would people think if I didn’t fight him for that?
“They’d think I’ve got something wrong with me.”
