David Haye’s return to the ring against Joe Fournier is no longer planned as a professional fight.
The 40-year-old former world champion had intended to meet Fournier with his professional record on the line when he met his friend on the undercard of Oscar De La Hoya vs. Vitor Belfort on September 11.
However the California State Athletic Commission has now made some alterations to the fight as previously planned, reports The Mirror.
The fighters will wear 12oz gloves, not the standard 10z gloves that are used in professional fights. As well as that, the match-up will be classed as an exhibition bout.
Haye has not fought since 2018 when he lost by knockout to Tony Bellew, and Fournier has a record of just 9-0 against opponents without a great deal of credibility.
Continuing the trend of former champion fighters getting back into the ring, a deal has been negotiated to see the fight added to De La Hoya’s own comeback, but Haye’s 28-4 record will not be altered after the fight.
