One fight that could happen once boxing is able to welcome at least some ticket-buying fans back to arenas is Demetrius Andrade (29-0, 18 KOs) vs. Liam Williams (22-2-1, 17 KOs).
In an interview with DAZN, Andrade's promoter, Eddie Hearn, said that the top-line middleweight clash is on his to-do list before 2020 draws to a close. Welshman Williams is first scheduled to step into the ring to face fellow Brit Andrew Robinson on a Queensberry card at BT Sport Studios in London on Oct.10 — although Williams promoter Frank Warren told iFL TV that the fight could be called off because of the WBO mandatory against Andrade.
Hearn admitted the slow-but-steady process of allowing fans back into live sporting events up to a fraction of the venue's capacity is likely to determine when exactly such a fight would take place.
"Demetrius Andrade has a mandatory against Liam Williams, which is a great fight but again it’s really the sort of fight where you need a live gate to really drive the numbers," he explained.
"We’re looking at the end of this year for Andrade-Williams, and I think it’s a great fight. Williams has done fantastic domestically, and stepped up with a good win over Alantez Fox, so this would be a real challenge for Andrade and I think you’ll see the best of him in that fight."
During the interview, Hearn also discussed the next move for another American middleweight on the Matchroom books, Daniel Jacobs (36-3, 30 KOs).
"Danny is getting hounded by Gabe Rosado," continued Hearn. "Everywhere he goes, Rosado is there, goading him and poking the stick at him.
"But I also like Jacobs vs. Callum Smith for the world championship, or even a world championship fight against Billy Joe Saunders.
"But there is a lot of interest in Jacobs-Rosado, and there’s a lot of 'beef'. So there’s a good chance that fight may happen in November."
