Boxing trainer Andy Lee believes that Tyson Fury has given Deontay Wilder an advantage as a result of a further delay for their trilogy rematch.
The pair had been due to contest the WBC heavyweight belt in July after the Bronze Bomber won his case at arbitration to force a third fight.
However, Fury and his camp suffered a coronavirus outbreak and the current champion has now postponed the match-up until October.
With Wilder having overhauled his training team, he now has longer with Malik Scott in order to work on improvements ahead of the autumn fight.
Speaking to the DAZN Boxing Show, Lee — who is part of DAZN’s commentary team and has also been a member of Fury’s training setup — argued that the wait for a fight would help Wilder.
“I think it's a benefit to [Deontay Wilder],” he said.
“Because he'll have longer with Malik Scott, allow him to prepare, and more time to get himself in the right place mentally, because that's what the challenge is - for him is to be right mentally.
“I think after the second fight, the job of pace is done. It will take an immense, immense effort to come back from that mentally for Wilder. So it's given him more time, more time to get the style that Malik Scott wants to have.
“I don't know what they're gonna do, whether they're gonna fight or try and box.”
