Deontay Wilder has claimed that the newly crowned undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk was 'robbed' of a stoppage win against Tyson Fury.
Usyk and Fury went head-to-head for all four heavyweight belts earlier this month in what was an entertaining bout in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Ukrainian managed to win the contest via a split decision, but there was a moment where it looked like he would stop Fury in the ninth round with Usyk landing plenty of punches on his opponent who was unsteady and being kept upright by the ropes.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Wilder gave his thoughts on the historic fight before explaining why Usyk should have won by stoppage.
“I thought it was a great fight. I was on the fence of things, I didn’t know who was going to win. I always think it’s what dog brings what bite to the fight and Oleksandr’s bite was bigger than his," Wilder said.
“I think he [Usyk] got robbed in the ninth round of a knockout for sure, gifts, gifts, gifts were given. But at the end of the day he won, big congratulations to him and I wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”
Wilder himself will have his sights set on challenging for either the undisputed title or a world heavyweight championship belt in the future, but first he must get past Zhilei Zhang when the pair meet on the Queensberry vs. Matchroom 5v5 card this weekend live on DAZN.
