Malik Scott will be part of Gilberto Ramirez’s training team when the Mexican fighter faces Chris Billam-Smith later this month.
The pair will clash on November 16, live on DAZN, and it will see two cruiserweight world champions look to unify their titles on their path to become undisputed ruler.
A seasoned campaigner at both super-middleweight and light-heavyweight, Ramirez is now excelling in a third weight class and a win over Billam-Smith can enhance his credentials.
The two will headline a huge show in Saudi Arabia, and the winner could be in the frame to fight Jai Opetaia in 2025.
Scott, a former heavyweight contender who also trains Deontay Wilder, is impressed by what he’s seen so far from Ramirez.
Despite many in the boxing community expecting a close fight between Ramirez and Billam-Smith, Scott is insistent that the fight won’t be close.
“No disrespect to Billam-Smith, but this fight is a mismatch.” said Scott when speaking to BoxingScene.
“Zurdo is a big, strong southpaw who’s faced tougher opponents than Billam-Smith. He’s a powerful body puncher with great angles and an incredible boxing mind.
“Billam-Smith is big and keeps coming forward, but he’s a one-trick pony.”
