Dereck Chisora said that he would have no problems motivating himself despite Joseph Parker’s easy-going nature.
Speaking to the DAZN Boxing Show, the 37-year-old heavyweight acknowledged that Parker seems like a genial gentleman but when it came to fighting that would no longer matter.
“It’s a fight. He’s not going to be chucking nice punches is he?” he asked. “He’s going to be chucking rough punches.
“It’s going to be a great fight. How do you switch? It’s difficult, because anything you say about him, he doesn’t get upset. He’s got that whole vibe, that zen vibe.
“I’ve arranged to have breakfast with him tomorrow. I’ve put everything into place, so if he turns up he turns up.”
With all four major belts, and the Ring Magazine title, currently held by Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, there seem to be few chances for anyone else in the top 10 to get their hands on a title. For Chisora, he is instead focusing on putting on memorable fights.
“As you go and see, the talents are all occupied right now,” he began.
“Dillian [Whyte] has been waiting for a title shot for the last five years. [Oleksandr] Usyk has been waiting for the last four years. Charles Martin did the eliminator for the IBF and is still waiting.
“This whole situation, waiting for titles - I just want to make good fights which people will pay and be interested to watch.
“I don’t only want titles, I’ve done the whole title game when I was coming up. I wanted to be British champion, Commonwealth, European. I held a lot of ranked titles. It didn’t do much for me but when I realised I was putting on fights the fans want to see with no titles in it... I prefer fighting for your country basically.”
Dereck Chisora vs. Joseph Parker, as well as Katie Taylor defending her undisputed lightweight title against Natasha Jonas, airs live on DAZN this Saturday May 1 everywhere except the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, China and Samoa.
