The boxing world was hit with a shock announcement on Tuesday.

Three weight world champion Shakur Stevenson surprised the world of boxing on Tuesday when he took to X to announce his retirement from the sport

After winning the WBC lightweight title last November, Stevenson was being steered towards some huge fights and is considered one of the world's best pound-for-pound fighters.

One of the names Stevenson was frequently linked with was Devin Haney who once was the undisputed 135lb champion before making the move to super lightweight where he is now the WBC champion.

Haney's father and trainer, Bill Haney, was asked to react to Stevenson's retirement in an interview with Fight Hub TV, and he claimed that the announcement could be a publicity stunt.

“As far as the retiring and the conspiring going on in boxing…we got a recent retirement or is it a publicity stunt with the Stevenson team?" Bill Haney said.

If Stevenson does indeed go through with his retirement, the young American would be exiting the sport with a 21-0 record with 10 of those wins coming by way of knockout.
