On Saturday, Devin Haney and George Kambosos Jr. run it back for the undisputed lightweight championship from Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
As always, plenty of bets can be made with a big-time boxing card. Let's take a look at some of them.
Devin Haney vs. George Kambosos Jr. 2 odds
Devin Haney: -700
George Kambosos Jr.: +500
(All odds via BetMGM)
BetMGM (as of Thursday, Oct. 13) has Haney installed as a massive favorite — coming in at -700, meaning you'd need to bet a whopping $700 just to win $100. Meanwhile, the former three-belt, 135-pound champion is the underdog at +500, meaning if you pluck down $100, you will win $500 if the Australian can score the upset and become the four-belt champion in his home country.
Haney and Kambosos first tangled in Melbourne in front of 41,129 fans at the beginning of June. Haney neutralized Kambosos and earned a clear unanimous decision victory to become the first four-belt 135-pound champion.
There was an immediate rematch clause if Haney beat Kambosos. Despite fans not having much of an appetite for a sequel, Kambosos invoked the clause, and the fight goes down on Saturday.
Devin Haney vs. George Kambosos 2 prediction
On paper, this should be a carbon copy of what happened in June. Haney showed he was the better boxer in every facet. Kambosos look flustered, confused, and the moment appeared to be too big for him.
Haney is the best pure boxer in the lightweight division and perhaps in all of boxing. It's extremely hard to find a path of how Kambosos can spring the upset. He's going to have to take risks. Boxing on the outside, like he attempted to do four months ago, proved to be the wrong strategy and Haney picked him apart. Yes, leaving yourself open by taking chances can lead to a counter, and Kambosos could be dropped. But that's what Kambosos will have to do if he wants to be champion once again.
Haney isn't going to make many mistakes, and letting it all hang out is Kambosos' best chance to win like he did when he beat Teofimo Lopez last November.
A Haney win by decision at -190 is the best play. Haney isn't going to put himself in danger. He wants to escape Australia with all four titles. His mantra is the Floyd Mayweather Jr. style of fighting, 'Hit and escape'.
Taking Kambosos at +500 to win isn't the worst idea in the world. It's just hard to see a serious path for Kambosos to get the job done.
