Josh Taylor remains the undefeated and undisputed light-welterweight champion of the world after his split decision win over Jack Catterall, though the majority of the boxing world certainly disputes whether he was in fact defeated on the night.
Taylor was, in the eyes of many, outboxed for the majority of the mandatory title defence in Glasgow but it's the opinions of three judges that decided the official result, causing outrage and even more calls for scoring reform in the sport.
Punches thrown/landed stats after the fight also show that the champ's late improvements were not only too little too late according to the round-by-round scoring system, but didn't actually achieve much more than the (ultimately ineffective) aggression fighters often show when they feel they are well behind on the cards.
Though it will be registered as a Taylor win, subjective areas such as DAZN's men's pound-for-pound top 10 rankings go by what our experts see with their own eyes every bit as much as on-paper wins and achievements. As a result, the Scot has taken quite the tumble on the latest update.
Taylor remains in the top 10 for now, but only just. He is 10th overall, a four-place drop from the sixth-place slot he occupied prior to the fight that really should have seen his four world titles change hands just before he moves up to welterweight.
At 147lbs, he'll find two top-5-P4P-ranked boxers in Terence Crawford (whom Taylor has publicly admitted he would love to face one day) and Errol Spence Jr., suggesting his work will be cut out for him if he aims to put the Catterall performance behind him and assert himself as one of the very best in the sport across all divisions.
Not only that, but the welterweight division contains hungry prospects such as Vergil Ortiz Jr., Michael McKinson ( the two fight live on DAZN March 19 ), Conor Benn, Jaron Ennis and more who will likely feel confident that they could go one better than Catterall and take the judges out of the equation altogether, if they faced Taylor in their preferred weight class.
