The two heavyweights could fight next year

Dillian Whyte has dismissed the idea that Tyson Fury is the best heavyweight fighter of all time.

Fury defeated Deontay Wilder for a second time in two years as he retained his WBC belt in his first career world title defence.

Given the impressive nature of Fury’s win, despite two knockdowns of his own, it has led to some claiming that he is the greatest ever.

However, Whyte, who as interim WBC champion could soon be granted a mandatory match-up with Fury, rejected the idea.

Speaking to CNN, he asked: "Who has he fought? Deontay Wilder and [Wladimir] Klitschko, he can't call himself the greatest.

"OK, you might be the best heavyweight around in your era now because you haven't lost, then you beat everyone put in front of you. But you're not the greatest.

"You haven't even achieved half of what Lennox Lewis has achieved: Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman — all of these guys."
