Does Jake Paul deserve respect if he beats Tommy Fury?

Does Jake Paul deserve respect if he beats Tommy Fury?DAZN

Sergio Mora thinks that beating Tommy Fury would be a step up for Jake Paul, but not enough to earn his respect.

Former world champion Mora was discussing Paul’s upcoming match with Fury on February 26 in Saudi Arabia, which could well be the toughest fight of both the unbeaten contenders' careers.

Nonetheless, neither fighter boasts a sterling resume in terms of their opponents so far, and Mora questioned how much will be proven if Paul wins.

He told JABS on DAZN: “Respect? No, but I will give him some credit because Tommy Fury is a quote-unquote real professional fighter but if you break down who Tommy Fury has beaten down, it’s really embarrassing the guys that he’s beat, they weren’t winners. They didn’t have winning records, nowhere close to being real boxers themselves.

“But Tommy Fury is a professional fighter so I’ll give Jake Paul credit, but not respect.

“You have to give Jake Paul credit, he’s come a long way starting from nothing to fighting an 8-0 fighter. I gotta give Jake Paul some credit, but it’s not respect yet. This is the most unbelievable matchmaking, to Tommy Fury’s credit. It’s really incredible the guys he’s fought and how he was able to find these guys. He did it, he’s 8-0, it’s a good look for Jake Paul.

“He’s this close to earning my fighter, he’s earned it as a promoter.

“It’s going to be a great look for him, history doesn’t remember who Tommy Fury fought, they’re just going to remember that Jake Paul took his zero.”
