Deontay Wilder has emerged as a possible contender to step into the ring with Anthony Joshua when the British fighter returns to action next year.

Joshua is currently mulling over multiple options as he looks to step back in the ring and begin another march to becoming world champion following consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

Following this past weekend’s events when Dillian Whyte squeezed past Jermaine Franklin, it appeared that Joshua would renew hostilities with Whyte.

Those plans don’t appear to be set in stone and with Wilder seemingly interested in facing Joshua, Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, has provided an update on Joshua vs. Wilder.

“Maybe they want it,” said Hearn when speaking on The DAZN Boxing Show.

“I'm going to reach out to Shelly [Finkel] today but there’s a lot of options going around for Deontay Wilder. At the moment, in AJ’s plans, he’s looking to fight late March, we’re locking that in. Could that be Wilder? Possibly. We’re open to that conversation.”
