'It's a joke!' - Eddie Hearn lambasts Jesus Saracho camp after Ernesto Mercado bout pulled

'It's a joke!' - Eddie Hearn lambasts Jesus Saracho camp after Ernesto Mercado bout pulledMark Robinson / Matchroom Boxing
The Mexican came in significantly overweight, meaning the Californian's Matchroom debut must wait until likely next year.

Eddie Hearn lambasted Jesus Saracho's camp after the Mexican came in seven pounds over weight, forcing the cancellation of his bout with Ernesto Mercado live on DAZN.

The Californian was due to make his Matchroom debut on the undercard of the Two Kings event featuring Jaron "Boots" Ennis and Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez this weekend.

But after his opponent for the light welterweight contest failed to make the 140lb limit, the bout was duly canned, leaving Mercado without a foe to face.

He will likely be rescheduled onto Matchroom's next card in early 2025 with a new opponent, but speaking afterwards, promoter Hearn had some strong words on the incident.

"It's a joke," he told The Stomping Ground. "His opponent comes in seven pounds over. Yesterday, we did a head-to-head in the press conference.

"His team's giving it the big one. Then you come away seven pounds over? It's disgusting. It's p***** me off, because I was looking forward to seeing Tito Mercado in action.

"We'll reschedule [but] not that fight, that's for sure. We'll get another fight ASAP and he'll be back in action."

Mercado is 16-0 with 15 KOs through his professional career so far, and would have been looking to extend his unbeaten record against Saracho.
