Eddie Hearn has big plans for Edgar Berlanga, but he’s insisted that the Puerto Rican star needs to look impressive when he faces Padraig McCrory this weekend.
The battle of unbeaten fighters takes place in Florida and with Berlanga eager to test himself against the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia, he can’t afford to slip up.
Berlanga and Hearn joined forces last year and their sole fight together saw Berlanga dominate Jason Quigley.
After stopping his first 16 opponents in the opening session, Berlanga has gone the distance in his last five fights, and Hearn wants his recent signing to ‘shine’ when the bell sounds on Saturday night.
“He’s a big star. He looks the part, he sells a lot of tickets, he has a huge following in Puerto Rico and the US,” said Hearn when speaking to BoxingScene.
“He needs to shine on Saturday to be calling out Canelo, the [Jaime] Munguias and those types of people. I think he has worked hard to put in a big performance.”
