'I'm a winner!' - Edgar Berlanga defiant as he praises 'legend' Canelo Alvarez following lossRey Del Rio / Premier Boxing Champions
The undefeated super middleweight could not topple the unified champion as he suffered a first career defeat in Las Vegas.

Edgar Berlanga proclaimed that he remains "a winner" despite defeat by unanimous decision to Canelo Alvarez in the pair's blockbuster battle.

The Puerto Rican met with the Mexican at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, looking to score victory against the unified super middleweight champion.

But he was unable to get the better of an opponent who mostly controlled matters throughout and took a comprehensive victory on the scorecards afterwards.

Berlanga acknowledged he was frustrated by the end result, but paid tribute to his opponent, highlighting his status as one of the modern pound-for-pound greats.

"I'm upset because at the end of the day I'm a winner," he said afterwards. "I fought a legend tonight and did my best to represent Puerto Rico.

"We're fighters and we try to throw our opponent off their game. I took his best shot and I knew I could take his punches and return them.

"I could have jabbed a lot more, but I was in there with a legend."
