'I'm here to stay!' - Erislandy Lara sends warning after statement victory over Danny GarciaRey Del Rio / Premier Boxing Champions
The WBA middleweight title holder defended his crown on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez's win versus Edgar Berlanga.

Erislandy Lara says he has no intentions to retire after preserving his status as boxing's oldest reigning champion with victory over Danny Garcia.

The 41-year-old scored a ninth-round victory over the former two-weight champion on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez's win over Edgar Berlanga.

Lara dropped Garcia for the first time in the latter's career to seal victory, preserving his hold on the WBA middleweight title with a third successful defence.

Yet the Cuban-American is already looking towards the future, and believes he is ready for whatever challenge comes next after his latest win at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

"I'm ready for the next challenge," Lara said afterwards. "I'm here to stay. I have a lot of boxing left in me.

"The punches I was landing were hurting him. That punch that ended the fight was a big shot.

"I felt that I boxed beautifully. It was a work of art, like a Picasso. I negated everything Danny had. He's a great fighter and a Hall of Famer just like me.

"I used lateral movement with a long jab to land my big shots, just like you learn at the Cuban school of boxing."
