There is no doubt that Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford have a mutual respect for each other.
But as the welterweight champions get closer to their July 29 undisputed championship fight, some of that respect is being expelled altogether.
Spence and Crawford separately sat down with Premier Boxing Champions recently to rate the other’s skills and were mostly complimentary with their takes. However, when the topic of resume was broached, Spence blasted Crawford’s body of work.
After thinking about it for a couple of seconds, Spence rated Crawford’s ring resume a “0.5,” before bursting into laughter. Conversely, Crawford rated Spence’s resume a “7.0.”
Crawford is 39-0 with 30 knockouts to Spence's ledger of 28-0 with 22 KOs. Some critics have poked holes at the quality of Crawford's opponents in the past, although he and Spence count former champion Shawn Porter as a solid common opponent.
Spence wasn’t all that impressed with Crawford’s defense or punch resistance, either, rating those skills a “3.5” and “4.0,” respectively.
The unified welterweight world champion’s highest score for Crawford? An “8.0” for the WBO welterweight world titleholder’s ring IQ.
Crawford rated Spence’s speed a “5.0,” and gave his footwork and defense both a “6.0.”
However, he was way more generous when rating Spence’s conditioning and ring IQ, giving the unified champ a “9.0” for both.
Crawford’s average skills rating for Spence was a 7.0, while Spence’s average rating for Crawford was a 5.4. How these ratings will factor into the actual mega bout next month remains to be seen.
