Sergio Mora believes that the Evander Holyfield vs. Kevin McBride fight will be able to hook the casual fan.
Boxing fans had been hoping for a trilogy fight between Holyfield and fellow former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, but it appears that is a long way off, should it ever be made.
Instead Holyfield will face the 47-year-old Irishman, who last fought in 2011 when he lost to Mariusz Wach, before retiring.
The exhibition fight will be part of the undercard for the Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos Jr. title clash, hinting that it is not a fight that could carry an event by itself. However Mora told Chris Mannix on DAZN’s JABS that he could see the way forward to market the match-up successfully.
“If you promote something and make it bigger, and make it like PT Barnum, you make something small a lot bigger,” he explained.
“It’s all about storytelling. If you start talking about Evander Holyfied, ‘I’m the last man that knocked out Mike Tyson,’ and the history between Evander Holyfied and Mike Tyson and promote it the right way - put some music behind it, some Hans Zimmer music - people are interested.
“When it comes to the casual fan, it’s all about the package.”
