Christian Mbilli continued his impressive climb up the super-middleweight rankings with a dominant win against Sergiy Derevyanchenko in Canada.
The unbeaten Frenchman is quickly making a name for himself, and he added to that reputation by outpointing the former world title challenger.
Renowned for his toughness, Derevyanchenko has shared the ring with many high-quality operators including Gennadiy Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs.
He was expected to provide Mbilli with a solid test and that’s what happened as Mbilli went the ten-round distance.
With a world title shot almost certain to arrive imminently for Mbilli, going the distance against the durable Ukrainian will prepare him for bigger tests.
A close first half of the fight soon went into Mbilli’s favour when it looked like Derevyanchenko suffered a bicep injury, and after taking over in the latter stages of the fight, he was handed the verdict on the scorecards.
