Wilder, once the division's most dangerous fighter, is aiming to rebuild after a stunning run of poor form that saw him lose to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.
Before that, Wilder had been involved in a legendary rivalry with Tyson Fury, and it is likely that those fights have perhaps slowed down the Alabama man.
Despite a downturn in momentum, Wilder is still a big name, and it would only take one win to elevate him back up the rankings and back into the major fights.
With Fury recently announcing his retirement, a showdown between him and Anthony Joshua seems no longer possible, and that means Wilder could step back into the mix to face his long-term rival.

One fighter who is ready to step into the ring with Wilder is Shannon Briggs, and the past rival of Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko has made it clear he is ready.
The New Yorker has not fought since 2016, but that does not deter Briggs from wanting to take on the threat posed by Wilder.
“I would like to fight him, I think it would be a great fight in Alabama when he comes back,” said Wilder when speaking to Fight Hub TV.
“I never really retired, they just won’t fight me. I’m going to fight in March so if he wants to go, we can go.”
