One boxer could have a big fight lined up.

David Benavidez may not have got the outcome he wanted when pursuing a fight with Canelo Alvarez, but there is some good news for the Arizona man.

The WBC have upgraded Benavidez to WBC interim champion at 175lbs meaning that he’ll be in the frame to fight the winner of Dmitry Bivol vs. Artur Beterbiev.

Benavidez had been hopeful of securing a showdown with Canelo at some point in 2024, but that contest still appears some way off.

A move to light-heavyweight earlier this year saw Benavidez defeat Oleksandr Gvozdyk, but a much bigger fight could be coming up.

Bivol and Beterbiev will meet in October with all four light-heavyweight titles on the line in a terrific undisputed battle.

Benavidez will be watching closely with the victor set to be his main target in 2025.
