The Briton could soon be facing a legend.

Nonito Donaire is ready to fight Sunny Edwards if given a chance.

Edwards last fought in June, and is the former IBF flyweight champion after losing to Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez last December.

Donaire meanwhile was last in the ring in July 2023, when he lost to Alejandro Santiago.

Edwards has been calling for a fight with Donaire, who has now responded via BoxingScene.

“He had called me out,” he said. "Of course, I responded, calling him out and Eddie Hearn to make the fight happen, but we haven’t heard anything since.”

He continued: “I’m always open to fights. That's just how I am – if they’re willing to do it, I’m there.”

Donaire has not fought at flyweight in more than a decade, so he acknowledged that there would need to be a compromise on where any fight took place.

“I mean, that's where my first world title was, but that was many moons ago,” he explained. “So, it would have to be at a mutually agreed-upon weight.”
