Former welterweight champion Austin Trout backed prime Floyd Mayweather to beat a prime Terence Crawford if the pair met in a fantasy match-up.
Mayweather reached a perfect 50-0 record, with his last professional fight coming against Conor McGregor, while Crawford remains unbeaten as he approaches his 40th bout.
Many had expected Crawford to face Errol Spence Jr. at the tail-end of last year to decide who is the undisputed welterweight champion but ultimately he took on David Avanesyan, and the chance of a four-belt fight looks to become increasingly unlikely the longer everyone is forced to wait.
Speaking to DAZN about a series of potential fights, Trout sung the WBO welterweight’s praises but ultimately plumped for Mayweather.
“Floyd, especially if you had Floyd at 135,” he began.
“Terence Crawford at 135, what would you say is Crawford’s prime weight? I think he’s more of a 140.
“I don’t know. He’s still knocking everyone out. I don't know. I’m going with Floyd, the prime Floyd before he was ‘Money’ Mayweahther.
“When he was still ‘Pretty Boy’, he used to fight his ass off. He knocked down [Diego Corrales] something like eight [sic - five] times.”
