Oliver McCall will continue his career on January 21 when he has his first fight of 2025, a contest that will be the 77th battle of McCall’s legendary career.
Now 59, McCall is showing no signs of retiring as he looks to build on his win against Stacy Frazier, which took place at the backend of last year.
McCall was victorious with a second-round stoppage, and he’ll be hoping to put on a similar performance when he faces Gary Cobia in Texas.
At his peak, McCall was one of boxing’s most feared heavyweights as he climbed to the top of the division in 1994 after sensationally destroying Lennox Lewis in two rounds.
As well as facing Lewis, McCall also stepped into the ring with other big names such as Larry Holmes and Frank Bruno before losing to Lewis in a rematch.
Famed for his durability, McCall has always been one of boxing’s most respected fighters, but it’s unclear where his career is headed as he refuses to consider retirement.
When defeating Frazier in November, McCall became the oldest former heavyweight champion to compete in a fight as he closes in on his 60th birthday.
Is it possible he could land a big money fight against a popular influencer similar to Mike Tyson facing Jake Paul? Or is McCall just continuing with his career out of love for the sport?
Once one of boxing’s biggest names due to his reign as WBC world champion, McCall is no stranger to the big stage, but surely, at this point of his career, the grand nights are behind him.
