Stephen Fulton breathed life into his career as he became WBC champion at featherweight with a wide points win over Brandon Figueroa in Las Vegas.

The pair provided chief support to David Benavidez’s win over David Morrell, and it was the busier approach from Fulton that saw him claim victory.

Back in 2021, Fulton defeated the same opponent at super-bantamweight , and he made it a repeat win to become one of the leading names at 126lbs.

The Philadelphia man, who was defeated by Naoya Inoue in 2023 when looking to become undisputed ruler, started the fight well and after building a healthy lead, it looked like Figueroa was deterred with each passing round.

Fulton used his superior skillset to keep his lead intact and there was never any real danger he would lose the fight despite being pushed close by his rival in their previous encounter.

With the WBC belt now firmly attached to him, Fulton is in a brilliant position to unify his recently acquired gong against numerous high profile operators including Liverpool’s Nick Ball.

His next move remains unknown following his most recent win, but Fulton is just eager to enjoy the moment after enduring a tough period in his professional career.

“Just enjoy the victory while I can. I’m living in a moment right now and not overlooking anything,” said Fulton immediately after the fight.

“I’m just going to focus on this and maybe next month and we’ll weigh our options.”
