While Jake Paul has been calling out Canelo Alvarez this week, another crossover athlete has his sights set on the social media star.
Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson tossed his name into the hat of potential opponents for Paul, who hasn't fought since defeating Nate Diaz in August.
Johnson, a former NFL player best known for his time with the Cincinnati Bengals, has dabbled in several different sports, including bull riding and soccer. In 2021, Johnson was on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's exhibition bout against Paul's older brother Logan, where the three-time First-team All-Pro wide receiver took on bare-knuckle fighter Brian Maxwell in a boxing match.
Now, it seems as though Johnson has raised the possibility of stepping up to take on Paul, although it's likely the 45-year-old was merely joking with his 3.1 million followers when making the suggestion.
"Jake can be my tuneup fight before [I] fight Boots," Johnson posted on X in response to an ESPN post asking who Paul's next opponent should be.
The "Boots" Johnson refers to is Jaron Ennis, the unbeaten IBF interim welterweight title holder. While it's obvious that Johnson isn't going to be taking on Ennis any time soon, crossover boxing has seen enough crazy matchups that a Jake Paul vs. Chad Johnson bout can't ever truly be ruled out.
