A surprise contender is one modern great's pick to take down the multiple weight world champion.

Mikey Garcia has seen Vergil Ortiz in action up close due to the fact his older brother, Robert Garcia, trains the Texas fighter.

Ortiz has made an impression in both the welterweight and super-welterweight divisions, and his name is constantly linked to a showdown with fellow American, Terence Crawford.

Garcia, a four-weight world champion, who shared the ring with the likes of Errol Spence, Adrien Broner, and Jessie Vargas, has not fought since 2021, but he’s still very much focused on the sport due to his sibling’s role.

The Californian is a huge admirer of Ortiz, and he thinks he could be the man to end the dominance enjoyed by Crawford.

“You’ve got the power and size in our advantage. I think you’ve got that going for Virgil,” said Garcia when speaking to ES News

“If Crawford is not in his prime anymore, all it takes it one fight, one training camp, and all of the sudden it’s the end of his career and Vergil can really take advantage.”
