Kal Yafai, a former WBA super flyweight champion, retired on Saturday night after he lost to Jonathan Rodriguez.
The Briton was fighting in Inglewood, California, live on DAZN and he said after the fight that he had already decided to retire, come what may, before the bout began.
"This was the end before the fight anyway," Yafai told DAZN after his defeat.
Pointing towards his shorts, Yafai continued: "I had it on here 'the last dance', I had it engraved in my shorts. I knew I was coming to the end anyway."
Yafai became champion in 2016 when he defeated Luis Concepcion as the two contested the vacant belt, and he defended the strap five times before losing to Roman Gonzalez last year.
The 34-year-old fighter also found success in the amateurs, as he fought at the 2008 Olympics in Great Britain, and followed that up in 2010 with silver at the 2010 European Games.
Yafai then went pro in 2012 and won super flyweight championships at British, Commonwealth and Intercontinental levels, and retires with 27 wins from 29 fights.
