"It's time to say goodbye to the ring and close this chapter of your career," Briedis wrote on X

"A huge thank you to everyone who supported me along the way. Your faith, your cries and your love made me who I am. We walked this road together. Thanks for everything!"

Briedis' final fight took place on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk back in May where he lost to Jai Opetaia in their rematch for the IBF cruiserweight title.

The 39-year-old retired with a 28-3 professional record with 20 of those wins coming by way of knockout, and he claimed the IBF, WBC, WBO and Ring Magazine titles at cruiserweight.

Briedis also featured in 2018's World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament where he lost to eventual winner Oleksandr Usyk in the semi-finals.
