Frank Warren has described the shocking postponement of Tyson Fury’s fight with Deontay Wilder as “very frustrating.”
The heavyweight pair were set to renew their rivalry with a third meeting on July 24th but those plans were thwarted due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the WBC champion’s camp.
With an October date speculated by those close to the action, it’ll mean that both fighters will have been inactive since their last fight in February 2020.
Fury’s original intention for 2021 was a unification showdown with Anthony Joshua, but with both men set to fight in the last third of this year, it looks like that fight is still some way off.
"It's looking some time in October, which is a great shame it's been postponed, but it is what it is," said Warren, Fury’s UK promoter, to BT Sport in the aftermath of Lyndon Arthur’s stoppage win over Davide Faraci.
"Unfortunately, they in the camp and himself got tested positive for Covid. There's nothing we can do about it. It's the times we live in, so the fight is postponed. Pushed back.
"Very frustrating. Really frustrating for Tyson. By the time he gets into the ring, he will have been out for nearly 20 months. That's a long, long time."
