Galal Yafai believes his long sparring experience with Sunny Edwards can help deliver a fight to remember for fans when they take on each other live on DAZN this weekend.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games favourite, a gold medal winner in Japan, meets the former IBF flyweight champion for the interim WBC title at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham.
The pair originally met in an amateur contest before coming through the Team GB ranks, and Edwards estimates they have sparred well into triple-digit rounds by now.
Speaking on DAZN's FACE OFF before their clash, Yafai revealed that he worked with his rival after turning professional, and that their knowledge can help deliver a great fight.
"I sparred Sunny for my debut. It was 2022 and then we sparred a year later," he said. "We were sparring twice a week for four or five weeks [around that time].
"We have good spars, we have proper good spars and the people that were there watching us would tell you that. To be fair, we’re both honest.
"There might have been rounds where he looked a little bit better and there’s rounds where I looked a bit better. But I know [this is] a fight people are going to be happy with."
Yafai, who holds an 8-0 professional record to date, is bidding to impress in the biggest fight of his career to date, with a proper world title shot likely on the line for the victor.
But Edwards, who rebounded from a loss to Jesse Rodriguez with a win over Adrian Curiel for a 21-1 record, will be looking to line up a second spell as champion himself.
