Gary Russell Jr has heaped a ton of praise on Shakur Stevenson, and he’s backed the Newark native to emerge victorious against Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis.
Russell Jr, a former world champion at featherweight, knows Stevenson well and he has no doubt about just how high in the sport the unbeaten fighter can go.
After securing world titles at featherweight and the division above, Stevenson is now campaigning at lightweight and is aiming to secure further honours.
Stevenson was in attendance when Haney beat Vasiliy Lomachenko earlier this year and Russell is confident on the outcome if Stevenson was to meet Haney, or other leading fighters in his weight class.
“I feel like Shakur, out of all of them, is the nicest. I feel he can fight better than any of them,” said Russell when speaking to Fighthype.
“He’s a young man, he’s developing and went to the Olympics with my younger brother. He was one of the youngest that would come down there and get some sparring and put some work in.
“I can respect that. I think he’s better than Devin Haney, I think he’s better than Tank. I think he’d beat Tank, I think he’d beat all those dudes.”
