WBA "Regular" lightweight champion Gervonta Davis turned himself in to police in Coral Gables, Fla., on Tuesday after cell-phone footage showed him putting his hands on a woman at a charity basketball game Saturday, according to multiple reports.
According to CBS Miami, Davis is being charged with simple battery domestic violence. TMZ and the Baltimore Sun also reported the news.
Davis was in Miami attending a charity basketball game during Super Bowl weekend. Footage from the event shows Davis yank a woman out of her seat, before the two were escorted off the court.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, Davis posted an Instagram story, identifying the woman as his child's mother and attempting to explain the incident.
"I never once hit her," Davis began explaining in the post. "Yeah, I was aggressive and told her 'come on.' That's the mother of my child. I would never hurt her. Other than that, Happy New Years ... January was trassshhhhh."
The Baltimore native is 23-0 with 22 KOs. He beat Yuriorkis Gamboa in his last fight in December to capture the WBA lightweight title.
