Gervonta 'Tank' Davis vs. Shakur Stevenson: Champion comments on potential winner

Gervonta 'Tank' Davis vs. Shakur Stevenson: Champion comments on potential winnerDAZN

WBA super flyweight champion Joshua Franco believes that Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis could rule the lightweight division, but did not rule out Shakur Stevenson.

Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show ahead of his June rematch with Kazuto Ioka in Japan, the 27-year-old American was asked about the 135lb division.

Devin Haney currently rules as the undisputed champion after defeating former unified belt holder Vasiliy Lomachenko, but with the close nature of that fight, and the difficulty of making weight as he matures, there is speculation he might move up.

Of course, that might happen after a huge fight against either - maybe even both - ‘Tank’ or Stevenson, but his likeliest next opponent seems to be WBC super lightweight champion Regis Prograis, who fights this weekend on DAZN against Danielito Zorrilla.

Franco was asked how he saw the division shaking out, and who would come out on top, and said: “Gervonta Davis. Yeah, for sure, I think he does.”

However, he took a moment to reconsider given Stevenson is no longer at junior lightweight, and could only suggest that he would want to see the champion emerge in the ring.

He added: “Very competitive fight, he’s on a different level too, I would love to see that fight.”
