Giovanni Cabrera reveals his strategy for William Zepeda fightGolden Boy

Giovanni Cabrera hopes to slow down William Zepeda in the ring when they fight this weekend.

The two lightweights go at it on July 6, live on DAZN, in a fight that could put the winner into contention for a title fight later in the year.

The 135lb division remains one of the most exciting in boxing, despite recent departures of Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez.

Both Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Shakur Stevenson remain big draws, and both Cabrera and Zepeda would likely jump at the chance.

However, speaking to BoxingScene, Cabrera was focused on the task at hand, and he was asked if he would hope to slow down Zepeda’s punching volume.

He answered: “Absolutely, he's got all these guys that stay right in front of him. They're pretty predictable.

“It’s all about offsetting rhythm and using different angles. I’m a southpaw. I don't know how many southpaws he has [fought], but I've beaten three undefeated ones and I know exactly what it takes to beat an undefeated southpaw.

“I'm not a conventional fighter, and so it's gonna be tricky for him. Volume … a lot of people can throw 100 punches on the heavy bag when a heavy bag doesn’t move.”
