Hasim Rahman Sr unleashes harsh verdict on son's career ahead of Jake Paul clash

Hasim Rahman Sr unleashes harsh verdict on son's career ahead of Jake Paul clashDAZN

Hasim Rahman Jr’s brief career has been criticised by his father. The elder Rahman, Hasim Sr, caused a stir in the heavyweight division when stopping Lennox Lewis in 2001 to become WBC heavyweight champion. Now in his son’s corner ahead of his marquee fight against Jake Paul next month, Rahman Sr has been brutally honest with the man he trains.

Since turning professional in 2017 with hopes of emulating his father’s remarkable success, Rahman Jr has impressed in small portions. Earlier this year, he endured his first loss when he was stopped by James Morrison, the son of Tommy Morrison, in the fifth round of a fight he had largely dominated. Despite only one setback, Rahman Sr is not happy with son’s progress.

“Flat out, I’m gonna give you the honest answer,” said Rahman at a press conference to promote the contest.

“I don’t know if my son gonna like it, but I’m just gonna tell the truth because that’s what I do. My son has really underperformed and underprepared for pretty much all of his fights. But he will be ready for this one.”

Rahman Jr agreed with his father’s assessment, “I think that the potential that’s inside me has not been reached yet, so yeah, I agree. I think that I can definitely have performed better in all my fights. So, on August 6th, we’re gonna come fully prepared and ready to go.”
