The next move of Ryan Garcia is still unconfirmed, but a showdown against Teofimo Lopez continues to be speculated for the popular Californian.
Earlier this year, Garcia produced an explosive performance when he dropped Devin Haney three times before winning on points, but the bout was later changed to a ‘No Contest’ after Garcia failed a drug test.
Garcia is expected to return to action in 2025 and there’s a long list of fighters willing to step into the ring with him when his comeback materialises.
Haney is another name linked to Garcia’s return, but Lopez, as the number one fighter at 140lbs, could beat his fellow world champion to the bout.
Robert Garcia, one of boxing’s best trainers, is a big admirer of Lopez, even describing the New Yorker as ‘unbeatable,’ and he’s had his say on a potential Lopez vs. Garcia fight.
“It’s a nice fight. Ryan has very explosive power, man. He’s very fast. it’s dangerous for Teo. But Teo, when he comes at his f—g best, he’s unstoppable,” said Garcia when speaking to FightHype.
“Look at his performance against Lomachenko, then he fights Josh Taylor the way he did? He’s unbeatable. But then he has those performances where we’re not very happy. So, depending on that, I think Teo has the heart, the skills, the power to beat Ryan. It depends what he brings.”
