The former world champion has not given up hope of a comeback.

Oscar De La Hoya has confirmed he has left hospital after receiving treatment for a bout of Covid-19.

The CEO of Golden Boy Promotions had been preparing to get back into the ring for a comeback bout against former UFC fighter Vitor Belfort.

Evander Holyfield has stepped in to rescue the event on September 11, but De La Hoya’s route to more action is unclear. He last fought in 2008 after being stopped by Manny Pacquiao, who made his own comeback last month in a defeat to Yordenis Ugas.

“Hey guys, I am out of the hospital,” De La Hoya said on Instagram

“I was in there for 3 days. COVID hit me really hard. I was in the best shape of my life and I really can’t wait to get back in the ring. Thank you very much for all your well wishes and all your support. I appreciate it.”

The Belfort-Holyfield event has been moved to Florida, with the California State Athletic Commission unwilling to sanction a fight with an athlete as old as 58-year-old Holyfield.
