Wade Plemons believes that Jake Paul is far and away the best crossover boxer right now.
The 25-year-old American remains unbeaten and is preparing to fight former MMA champion Anderson Silva.
While Paul was one of the first celebrities from YouTube to make the leap into the boxing ring, he has perhaps come the furthest, and had he beaten Hassim Rahman Jr, the WBC governing body said they would give him an official ranking.
Speaking on DAZN, Plemons weighed up who he rated most highly.
He said: “I’m going to go number five, I’m going to put Salt Papi there, and [AnEson]Gib. Salt Papi is dangerous but Gib has experience and done this for longer. He’s shown an ability not only to get off the canvas, but to continue to win fights.
“Number four, Slim. The Slim Reaper. Every time he goes in, someone goes to sleep, and it’s not him. He gets them a pillow and a blanket.
“Number three. Give me Logan Paul and you’re gonna have to hear me out on this. He doesn’t have a win but any man that steps in front of Floyd Mayweather and by the eighth round is pointing to the air and saying, ‘There goes your legacy!’ and laughing at him - 50lbs bigger - he held up, he didn’t lose the fight. He showed an ability that wasn’t YouTube boxing.”
Plemons reserved some praise for KSI, saying: “Number two, KSI. THe man’s undefeated. He beat Logan Paul, the guy who outweighed him. Reach, everything. KSI was a dog in there. He just is, that’s who he is. He just goes and gets it. Then does the two-in-one night. He’s continuing to evolve.”
He then settled on Paul.
“Number one, Jake Paul,” he proclaimed.
“Number one and two are that close, but Jake has elevated himself not just by stepping out of the YouTube boxing scene, but winning. To go and do it to Tyron Woodley, still in fantastic shape, dangerous to anyone. By the way, he’s fighting one of the greatest strikers that ever lived.”
