Jack Catterall gives harsh assessment of Josh Taylor's character ahead of April rematch

Jack Catterall gives harsh assessment of Josh Taylor's character ahead of April rematchMatchroom Boxing

Jack Catterall and Josh Taylor have made their animosity for each other no secret, and their war of words continues to intensify as their upcoming fight draws nearer.

The duo will square off April 27 in Leeds, broadcast live worldwide on DAZN (excluding the U.S.). It's a rematch of their contentious 2022 world title bout in which Scotland's Taylor retained the undisputed super-lightweight crown via a split decision victory over his English opponent.

No belts will be on the line this time as Taylor relinquished the WBC, IBF and WBA titles shortly after defeating Catterall and lost the WBO belt to Teofimo Lopez in 2023, but the personal nature of this fight lends an extra motivating factor as both men look to put themselves back into the title picture.

More than anything, each man simply wants to beat the other.

"You know what it is, they’ve said it’s the England vs. Scotland heritage, but it’s more of me just fighting a pr—k," Catterall said in a press conference on Tuesday. "He’s just not a nice person. That’s it.

"I know what lies ahead of me. As much as we have the press conferences and the weigh-ins, I have a job to do on April 27. I’m preparing for the best of Josh Taylor, so when I beat him and do it convincingly, I can move on with my career.

"I think he’s there to be beaten and I’ve got his number, and it’s only a matter of time before he touches the canvas again."

Looking in Taylor's direction, Catterall added: "Josh, you are finished after this fight. In nine weeks' time, we get to put him to bed."
