Jorge Linares knows there may not be too many more chances after his fight on Saturday against Jack Catterall.
The duo will square off in Liverpool for Catterall's WBA Intercontinental super lightweight title, live on DAZN (excluding Australia and New Zealand).
The fight comes on the heels of three straight losses for Linares, who at 38 years old is likelier closer to the end of his career than the beginning.
However, a return to the to UK, where Linares fought in three successful world lightweight title matches between 2015 and 2017, could be what's needed for the Venezuelan to return to glory as he looks back on "a lot of beautiful memories of fighting in England."
“[T]his is a big night for me, I am close to retirement, I’m coming in great shape, better than the other times I’ve come to England, I feel like a 20-year-old," Linares said at a press conference on Thursday.
"I’m excited and super excited to be here. I don’t like talking too much, but I am excited to have a great fight with Jack."
Linares isn't worried about his recent record, with losses to Devin Haney, Zaur Abdullaev and Zhora Hamazaryan his most recent results. The former three-weight world champion is eager to put the defeats behind him in a fight against a good opponent.
“I’m coming off three losses but I don’t think about that," he said. "I know I’m in with a great fighter but I’ve been here before and have had a great camp.”
