It’s very rare you see a fight of the quality of Jack Catterall vs. Regis Prograis without a world title on the line, but that’s what we have this Saturday night, live on DAZN.
I’m looking forward to being at the Co-op Live for the first ever boxing show there and it promises to be a classic with two of the world’s best super-lightweights looking to stake their claim for another huge fight in 2025.
First of all, I want to give credit to both men for taking this fight because these are two absolute quality operators who probably could've sat it out for a world title shot at some point.
The pair of them have decided against that route because they both know that whoever wins this fight will be at the front of the queue for a major fight in the near future.
Boxing needs more of its fighters to be bold and take risky fights because it doesn't have to be doom and gloom for fighters when they’re prepared to roll the dice the way these two are. A big fight is a big fight, and I've got so much respect for these two for daring to be great against each other.

On the actual fight, this is such a hard one to pick because you’ve got a fighter in Catterall who’s building really good momentum and he’s coming up against a boxer who’s eager to prove a huge point.
Prograis was outclassed by Devin Haney at the end of last year, and even though there’s no shame in losing to a fighter like Haney, Prograis will want to show he’s still a big threat at 140lbs.
Going back to 2022, Catterall has demonstrated that he’s very much a world class fighter and he’s very unfortunate not to be world champion following his performance in his first fight against Josh Taylor.
Catterall was outstanding that and he showed he belonged at the highest level despite the fight not going his way.
He’s since registered a win over Taylor, and he also holds a solid win over Jorge Linares, and adding Prograis to his record will make him one of this country’s standout fighters. Can he push on after this and defeat a Teofimo Lopez or Devin Haney? That’s the big question, but he will have earned the right.
For Prograis, this is his opportunity to show that he’s still one of the best fighters in the world. Like Catterall, his big moment came against Taylor back in 2019, and he fell short in a close fight. He’s been at a good level for a long time, but his loss to Haney in 2023 will have hurt him bad. This is his chance to show that he’s still the real deal.
On the fight, I’m expecting high quality all the way through with both men going for it in the latter rounds to make sure of the verdict.
Catterall is the fighter in form, and I think that extra bit of confidence he has, combined with the fact he’ll push the fight, could give him the edge.
This is going to be a great fight, and I think Catterall will do just enough to get the nod and land himself another huge contest in 2025.
