Jake Paul believes that Ryan Garcia could defeat Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis if they make their fight.
The two unbeaten Americans have been circling each other for a couple of years since Garcia became interim WBC champion at the start of last year, a belt he ultimately gave up.
Garcia took some time out from boxing to deal with mental health troubles and surgery, and when he returned, most recently beating Javier Fortuna, he confirmed he would not fight at lightweight again, instead intending to operate at 140lbs.
Davis has fought at super lightweight before but there appears to be some dispute about whether he will move up to make a fight.
Paul, reported by BoxingScene.com, said he would be supporting Garcia.
“I’m rooting for Ryan in that fight,” he began. “It’s going to be a tough fight, I think it’s a 50-50 fight.”
“Gervonta hasn’t shown really the ability to win a lot of rounds. Even with [Mario] Barrios, he was losing a lot of those rounds on my scorecards.
“Obviously, he’s in the Mayweather protection program... but Barrios was winning those rounds in my opinion before he got dropped.
“If Ryan can just not get hit with those big punches, then I think he can pull it off.”
