Jake Paul steps back into the boxing ring this weekend, knowing he's putting his upcoming clash with Mike Tyson at huge risk as he takes on Mike Perry.

Paul was set to fight the boxing legend in Texas on Saturday night, but the fight has been pushed back to November after Tyson's inflamed ulcer setback.

Instead, Paul will now battle former UFC star Perry, who has made a name for himself as one the best bare-knuckle fighters around.

Some have questioned why the Youtuber turned boxing star would agree to face Perry ahead of his rescheduled meeting with Tyson, but Paul has explained the method behind taking the fight.

"Mike is the baddest man on the planet, one of the greatest heavyweights, if not the greatest heavyweight of all time; he has so much experience," he told DAZN.

"I couldn't believe it; I was so happy, so focused, so one-track minded then it just got pulled form underneath me. It was a lot to handle and it transitioned into something else.

"A lot of people think I'm crazy for pivoting to this; why Mike Perry, why now, why take the risk, you could lose the biggest payday of your life against Mike Tyson if you lose to Mike Perry who is a violent killer, a bare-knuckle, undefeated legend over there. He takes punches like they're nothing, he's fast, athletic, he hits hard, he's a brawler, and I can't take that lightly.

"This whole thing is a risk, I'm focused on July 20, I'm focused on Mike Perry and being in that mindset will lead me to victory.

"I need the experience, I need to stay active. I fear no man, I'm ready anytime, any place, anyone, and I truly back that up with my action, it's not just something I say; I'm here to become world champion, I've done everything else I wanted to do in boxing, I've exceeded my expectations so that's my last goal. I will be the cruiserweight world champion."
