Bob Arum can’t see any way that Mike Tyson can secure victory when he steps into the ring for a blockbuster clash with Jake Paul next month.
Tyson will have his first professional contest in almost two decades when he takes on the popular YouTuber, and it’s a fight that has the boxing world speculating on how things might play out.
Essentially still a boxing novice, Paul has impressively learnt on the job and has built a respectable record with the only blemish being a defeat to Tommy Fury.
In Tyson, Paul is facing a much older fighter, but with age comes experience, and Tyson’s time in the sport brought him widespread acclaim when he fought at his peak.
Tyson reigned as undisputed heavyweight champion in the late 1980s, and he also enjoyed a memorable run the following decade when he became ruler again. Tyson walked away from boxing in 2005, but he has since participated in numerous exhibition bouts including a 2020 contest with Roy Jones Jr.
Arum, a Hall of Fame promoter, has been involved in boxing for a very long time, and he thinks it’s Tyson is set to endure a hard night when his fight with Paul finally gets underway.
“A 58-year-old guy, no matter how good they were, no matter how athletic they were, are not gonna be able to fight,” said Arum when speaking to Johnny Boy Boxing .
“You can’t throw punches like you’re supposed to, you can’t do a lot of things. I hope Mike doesn’t get hurt, but I really give him relatively no chance.
“You lose that muscle memory as you get older.”
